Bismarck, ND – North Dakota Senators John Hoeven and Kevin Cramer have officially announced their recommendation for Brad Thykeson to serve as the next State Executive Director of the Farm Service Agency (FSA) in North Dakota. Thykeson, who previously held the position during President Donald Trump’s first term, has been recognized for his hands-on approach in supporting agricultural producers, particularly during times of market uncertainty and following natural disasters.
Thykeson’s tenure at the FSA was marked by his involvement in a number of critical programs aimed at assisting farmers and ranchers. Notably, he played a key role in the implementation of the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Coronavirus Food Assistance Program, which provided much-needed relief to agricultural producers affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. His leadership during these challenging times helped secure vital support for North Dakota’s farmers and ranchers.
In a joint statement, Senators Hoeven and Cramer expressed strong support for Thykeson’s reinstatement, emphasizing his deep understanding of North Dakota agriculture and the needs of local producers. “FSA plays a pivotal role in supporting American farmers and ranchers by administering programs crucial to their day-to-day operations including agricultural risk programs, conservation, and commodity price support,” the senators said. “Reinstating Mr. Thykeson will provide North Dakota farmers and ranchers an experienced director who, as the former FSA State Director for North Dakota and a lifelong farmer, understands their issues and the needs of North Dakota agriculture as it helps feed the nation.”
Thykeson’s extensive background in farming and his previous experience with the FSA position are seen as key assets that will contribute to the continued success of the agency in North Dakota. His leadership is expected to strengthen the delivery of vital programs that support the state’s agricultural industry, which plays an essential role in the national food supply chain.
As the recommendation moves forward, North Dakota’s farming community looks to the future with hope that Thykeson’s appointment will bring both stability and innovation to the FSA’s efforts in supporting local farmers and ranchers.
