North Dakota – Governor Kelly Armstrong has directed all government agencies in North Dakota to fly the United States and state flags at half-staff on Thursday, May 15, in observance of National Peace Officers Memorial Day. The governor also encourages residents and businesses across the state to do the same.

This directive follows a proclamation issued by former President Donald Trump, designating May 11 through 17 as National Police Week, a time set aside to honor the sacrifice and service of law enforcement officers nationwide.

To commemorate the occasion, Governor Armstrong will join Attorney General Drew Wrigley and Supreme Court Justice Douglas Bahr in delivering remarks at the North Dakota Peace Officer Memorial Service. The event is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 15, and will take place in Memorial Hall of the State Capitol in Bismarck.

During the service, the state will remember and honor North Dakota’s 69 fallen peace officers who lost their lives in the line of duty. As a sign of respect for law enforcement officers, both past and present, the windows of the State Capitol will be illuminated with the “Thin Blue Line,” a symbol representing the courage and sacrifice of police officers.

The governor’s call for flags at half-staff and the memorial service are part of the broader national observance recognizing the dedication and bravery of those who serve to protect communities.
