Bismarck, N.D. – The North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT) is set to start the Highway 83 culvert replacement project on August 4. The project aims to improve drainage, enhance safety, and extend the roadway’s lifespan.
Key improvements include replacing the existing structural steel pipe beneath U.S. Highway 83/South Broadway Street with a concrete box culvert. The project also involves signal upgrades and road resurfacing.
Preparations are already underway, with southbound U.S. 83/South Broadway reduced to one lane. The U.S. 2 off-ramp to U.S. 83 is closed and detoured via the U.S. 2/U.S. 52 interchange.
Drivers will be routed north on U.S. 52, then west on U.S. 2 to exit at the U.S. 2/U.S. 83 interchange. Motorists should expect delays during these closures.
Construction is expected to be complete by late October 2025. The NDDOT will provide ongoing updates on traffic and road conditions at dot.nd.gov/Highway83.
