Bismarck, N.D. – The North Dakota League of Cities is hosting its annual statewide “If I Were Mayor” essay contest, aimed at inspiring third- and seventh-grade students to reflect on public service and community leadership.

Open to all North Dakota students, including those in public, private, or homeschool settings, the contest invites participants to submit original essays answering the following questions:
– Why is your city great?
– What makes it special?
– What would you do to improve your city if you were mayor?

Essays must be original, no longer than one page, and either typed or handwritten. Each student may submit only one entry. Creativity and originality will be key judging criteria.

### Submission guidelines:
– **Teachers** must include the student’s name, school, and teacher’s name.
– **Individual students** must include the author’s name, address, parent’s name, and phone number.
– Mail entries to:
**NDLC, 410 E Front Ave., Bismarck, ND 58504**, postmarked no later than **March 15, 2025.**
– Email entries to **[email protected]** by **March 14, 2025.**

The winners will be announced in April during City Government Week. Each winner will receive a $150 prize, and their essays will be featured in the League’s magazine, **CITYScan.**
