For the lovely couple, Shelly and Jeremy, what should have been one of the happiest moments of their lives took a near fatal turn. The unfortunate woman reportedly had to go in for an emergency c-section, but during the surgery, a blood clot broke in her leg, sending her into a coma. The couple’s newborn daughter, Rylan, was alive and healthy but doctors told Jeremy that his wife just wasn’t waking up. The doctors explained to him that they put Shelly on the ‘last chance’ ventilator. They told her husband that they tried all the medicine and machines they had, but were not seeing any progress.

Family and friends visited and tried in vain to get her to wake from her coma, but nothing helped. “The doctors told me that if Shelley wasn’t able to do something on her own, they didn’t think they’d be able to keep her alive until the morning,” Jeremy said. Then a nurse that was helping treat Shelly had an idea. “We knew skin to skin contact is very beneficial to an infant, so we thought, why not try it for a mom,” nurse Ashley said. When little Rylan was placed on her mother’s chest, the newborn became so content that she fell asleep. But Jeremy and several nurses gathered and decided to try to get little Rylan to cry. And it’s indeed when she began to cry that something incredible happened.

“They say that they saw a spike in my vitals when she cried. They think that me hearing her subconsciously gave my body and my subconscious a reason to fight, that I knew that I still needed to be there for my baby,” Shelly said. Within moments of contact with her daughter Shelly’s condition improved and she was out of her coma.
“Her crying was able to give me something to fight for,” she said. “I remember staring at Rylan’s face and thinking she is the most beautiful baby in the world.

I know every mom feels that way, but I felt like we had a special connection because of everything that had happened,” Shelly reportedly said. Shelly gradually recovered sufficiently and was able to leave her hospital bed. And eventually the hospital too. A year has passed since the miracle and Rylan has grown like a champ. “What a difference a year makes!” Shelly wrote on her Facebook page. We are so happy that we got to share how the events of last year have changed our lives for the better.” The family said that it is extremely grateful to the hospital staff whom did not give up hope and were willing to try everything to get Shelly to wake up.
