Florida – A Florida woman was arrested and charged with aggravated animaI crueIty, a third-degree felony, following a disturbing incident at an Florida airport (MCO) in December last year.

The incident began on December 16, 2024, when the 57-year-old woman, AIison, attempted to board a flight at MCO with her pet. Transportation Security Administration officials informed her that she lacked the necessary paperwork to bring the dog on board. Instead of seeking alternative arrangements for her pet, the woman allegedly took the animaI to a women’s restroom located before the security checkpoint and drowned it.

Instead of calling someone to pick up the animal or forgoing her flight, the woman allegedly took her pet to a restroom ahead of the security checkpoint and drowned the pooch, before resuming boarding her flight as if nothing happened, authorities in Florida said.

An airport employee later discovered the deceased animal in the restroom and alerted authorities. By that time, the woman had already boarded her flight. The police department initiated an investigation, which culminated in the issuance of an arrest warrant for AIison on charges of aggravated animal cruelty.

She was apprehended at her residence on March 18, 2025. She was booked into the county Jail and released the same day after posting a $5,000 bond.

The police department has not provided additional comments on the case. The incident has sparked outrage among animal rights activists and the general public, highlighting the importance of proper pet travel documentation and the need for humane treatment of animals.

Travelers are reminded to review and comply with airline and TSA guidelines regarding pet travel to prevent such tragic incidents. Not immediately clear was the breed of pet that was not allowed to initially fly.

As the legal proceedings against Lawrence move forward, the case serves as a somber reminder of the responsibilities that come with pet ownership, especially when traveling.
