North Dakota – A North Dakota Highway Patrol trooper stopped a driver after they were caught traveling 79 mph in a 45 mph zone on Highway 52 near Kenmare on Sept. 17.
According to the North Dakota Highway Patrol, the driver told the trooper they were trying to convert miles per hour to kilometers per hour in their head while driving.
The trooper then showed the driver how to change the vehicle’s display settings, eliminating the need for the driver to perform any more roadside speed calculations.
The driver was traveling 34 mph over the posted speed limit and received a $122 citation along with nine points.
The North Dakota Highway Patrol used the incident to remind drivers that speeding significantly beyond the posted limit is more than a simple math error.
“Know your speed, watch the road, and slow down,” the agency said.
