Bismarck, ND – According to the officials, these scams involve individuals impersonating deputies and making fraudulent demands for money.

Recently, scammers have been contacting residents claiming that they have outstanding warrants. They then coerce victims into paying off these fictitious warrants using electronic methods such as gift cards, Apple Pay, or other cash app devices. In some cases, the scammers even instruct victims to purchase gift cards from stores while remaining on the phone.

It’s important to note that the Burleigh County Sheriff’s Department never requests payment via gift cards or any electronic means over the phone. Such demands are clear indicators of fraudulent activity.

Residents are urged to exercise caution and remain vigilant against these scams:

  • Do not purchase gift cards for payment under any circumstances.
  • Verify the legitimacy of any suspicious calls by contacting the Burleigh County Sheriff’s Department directly at 701-222-6651.

If you encounter any fraudulent activity or have concerns about the authenticity of a call, please reach out to the Sheriff’s Department immediately. Protect yourself and your community by staying informed and aware of these deceptive practices.

Stay updated and informed through official channels and share this information with friends and family to prevent further victimization.
