Bismarck, N.D. – The City of Bismarck reaffirmed its participation in the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Community Rating System (CRS) program during its most recent City Commission meeting. As a result of the city’s Class 7 rating within the program, flood insurance policyholders in Bismarck and its Extraterritorial Zone (ETA) receive a 15% discount on their premiums.

The CRS program, part of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), rewards communities that implement proactive floodplain management practices. Bismarck’s ongoing participation in the initiative reflects its commitment to mitigating flood risks and enhancing public safety.

City officials encouraged property owners with existing or new flood insurance policies to review their coverage with their insurance agents to ensure they are receiving any applicable discounts. The program’s benefits are intended to ease financial burdens on residents while reinforcing the importance of flood preparedness.

Bismarck continues to work toward improving its flood resilience through planning and infrastructure projects, with city leaders emphasizing the importance of maintaining and advancing flood mitigation efforts to better protect the community.
