Police officials said the 22-year-old daughter, later identified as Jackalyn, reportedly took a knife and stabbed her 36-year-old mother in the chest during an argument over her relationship with one of her friends. Judge Charles sentenced Jackalyn to 30 years in prison. Jury found Jackalyn guilty on one count of manslaughter with a weapon or firearm in her mother’s, Amanda, death.

Assistant State Attorney Samantha reportedly said: “I’m grateful we were able to deliver justice on behalf of Amanda and her family. I hope they can find some solace in knowing that Jackalyn couldn’t escape justice, and that every word spoken on behalf of Amanda was heard.” On Oct. 23, 2020, officers responded to a disturbance call at the victim’s residence. When the officers arrived on scene, they reportedly found the 36-year-old victim suffering from a single stab wound to the chest. She was rushed to a hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Prior to losing consciousness, Amanda told multiple witnesses outside the residence that the defendant stabbed her. Her 22-year-old daughter already fled the scene by the time someone called 911 to report the attack. Several witnesses told police that Amanda was inside the home when Jackalyn arrived. Officers were able to locate Jackalyn a short while later while hiding on a bus attempting to disguise herself. She was taken into custody and charged with second-degree murder.

During an interview with investigators, the young woman reportedly said that she was defending herself. She also said that while she was in a bedroom in the home, her mom came in and began to batter her. She said that she pulled a knife and stabbed the victim to stop the altercation before discarding the weapon in a yard and fleeing the scene. But, prosecutors said that the attack took place during a confrontation over Jackalyn’s relationship with one of Amanda’s friends.”
