North Dakota – Gov. Kelly Armstrong signed an executive order today waiving hours of service requirements for drivers of commercial vehicles transporting propane and other petroleum products.

The move comes as North Dakota faces frigid temperatures, with tonight’s forecast in Bismarck predicting lows of around 40 below zero.

The state is experiencing low propane inventories and heightened demand for heating fuel, which has been exacerbated by severe winter weather. The order highlights the potential risks to public health, safety, and welfare due to the lack of sufficient heating fuel.

By waiving these requirements, the state aims to help carriers avoid delays in delivery, ensuring that propane and other essential products reach customers in need. The 30-day waiver is effective immediately, though all road safety and vehicle compliance regulations remain in place.
