MINOT, N.D. – The defending state champion Minot Magicians were in their usual dominant form on Friday evening as they topped the Jamestown Blue Jays in boys swimming, 133-50. During the meet, Minot High produced winners in 11 of the 12 events with all but one individual winner registering state qualifying scores.

In the first event of the competition, it was Grant Schaeffer, Ryan Hubbard, Alex King and Jaxon Reinke clocking a first place time of 1:47.30 in the 200-yard medley relay. Minot also won the other two relay races on Friday as Peyton Bartsch, Josh Boen, Alex Prestwich and Levi VonBokern registered 1:35.95 in the 200-yard freestyle. Meanwhile, the quartet of Dominic Yoder, VonBokern, King and Reinke took the top spot in the 400-yard freestyle (3:31.43).

In individual competition, it was Yoder taking first in both the 200-yard free (1:54.55) and 100-yard backstroke (55.16 seconds). Yoder’s performance in the free represented a state qualifying time, and his effort in the backstroke earned first-team all-state recognition. Fellow relay standouts Reinke and Schaeffer took first in the 200-yard individual medley 50-yard free with times of 2:11.37 and 22.71 seconds respectfully. Later in the meet, Schaeffer also earned first place in the 100-yard free (49.66 seconds).

Minot sophomore Jaron Coombs earn the best score in the 1-meter dive (220.55), and King, also a sophomore, paced the field in the 500-yard free (5:16.67). Rounding out the MHS winners, Boen, a senior, took first in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:08.53).
