North Dakota – North Dakota Health and Human Services has announced that applications are now being accepted for grant funding made available through the state’s opioid settlement funds. These funds are aimed at supporting programs and initiatives that tackle the ongoing issue of opioid use disorder and expand access to essential services, including prevention, treatment, and recovery. Organizations across North Dakota are encouraged to apply by the deadline of 11:59 p.m. CT on Monday, April 28, 2025.

The grant funding is designed to support a variety of evidence-based interventions, including treatment and rehabilitation services, community prevention efforts, education, and family support. This initiative represents a crucial step toward addressing the state’s opioid crisis and providing vital resources to individuals and families affected by opioid use disorder.

Applicants whose proposals align with specific priority recommendations from the Opioid Settlement Advisory Committee will receive additional points in the review process. These priorities include expanding access to community-based treatment and recovery services in both rural and non-rural areas, increasing treatment and recovery services within jail settings, supporting community prevention activities, enhancing the behavioral health workforce to meet the growing demand for services, and supporting syringe service programs aimed at reducing harm and improving public health outcomes.

Christopher Joseph, General Counsel for the Governor’s Office and Chair of the Opioid Settlement Advisory Committee, emphasized the significance of these funds in improving North Dakota’s response to the opioid epidemic.

“These funds provide an opportunity to make meaningful investments in North Dakota’s communities by supporting evidence-based programs that address opioid use disorder and its widespread impact,” Joseph said. “We encourage organizations to apply and help strengthen prevention, treatment, and recovery services across the state.”

Organizations interested in applying for the grant can access the full application guidelines and submission instructions on the North Dakota HHS website. The total available funding for the program is contingent upon the legislatively appropriated funds for the 2025-2027 biennium. Successful applicants will be notified in early June, with grant contracts starting on July 1, 2025.

The state expects that the funds will help build on existing efforts to combat opioid use disorder and strengthen resources for individuals in need of support. North Dakota HHS is looking for proposals that focus on sustainable, impactful solutions that address both the immediate and long-term needs of individuals struggling with opioid addiction.

This initiative underscores the state’s ongoing commitment to fighting the opioid crisis and improving access to life-saving services for communities across North Dakota.
