Bismarck, N.D. – The City of Bismarck will begin offering free wood chips to residents on a trial basis at two designated grass collection sites, officials announced Wednesday.

The two locations include the Cottonwood Park parking lot at Santa Fe Avenue and 12th Street, and the Ash Coulee Water Tower site. The wood chips are produced by the city’s Forestry Division during routine tree work and will be replenished as workload and location allow.

The program is intended for residential use only. Commercial contractors are advised to collect single grind wood chips from the Bismarck landfill, where residents may also pick up free chips. Those interested should bring their own shovel for self-loading.

The city reminds the public that tree branches and twigs are not accepted at grass collection sites and should instead be disposed of at the landfill.
