Bismarck, N.D. – The Bismarck Police Department is reminding motorists to follow speed limits in school zones after officers recently stopped drivers traveling two to three times the posted limit.
School zones are designated as 20 MPH areas to ensure the safety of students, parents, and school staff. Authorities emphasize that exceeding this limit significantly increases the risk of accidents.
According to the department, higher speeds reduce reaction time, making it harder for drivers to stop if a child crosses the road unexpectedly.
Additionally, crashes at excessive speeds are more likely to result in severe injuries or fatalities.
Drivers are advised to observe school zone speed limits until they pass a sign marking the end of the zone or a different speed limit sign.
Police urge all motorists to be vigilant and reduce speed to help keep children safe.
