Last year’s award recipients included Mika Stokkeland, Lauren Zent, and Youthworks. Zent was recognized for her volunteer work with multiple organizations and her support for individuals with special needs. Stokkeland was honored for her involvement with Designer Genes, a local organization supporting individuals with Down syndrome. Youthworks received recognition for its many services and safe spaces where young people feel heard and supported.

“The HRC Humanitarian Award is an opportunity for our city to recognize leaders and changemakers in our community,” said HRC Chair Katie Houle. “Last year, we expanded the nominations to include an award for youth, and we’re hopeful to receive more nominations this year recognizing a young person, under the age of 18 in 2025, who models a commitment to serving others.”
