North Dakota – A North Dakota Highway Patrol trooper arrested a driver for DUI after the motorist allegedly admitted to still being intoxicated from the previous night.
According to the North Dakota Highway Patrol, Trooper Pulver stopped the driver on July 16 at approximately 11:16 a.m. in the Minot area after observing the vehicle fail to maintain its lane and the driver was not wearing a seat belt.
During the traffic stop, the driver reportedly told the trooper they were still intoxicated from drinking the night before.
The driver was arrested for DUI, listed as a second offense within seven years, as well as possession of marijuana.
The North Dakota Highway Patrol used the incident as a reminder that alcohol can remain in a person’s system even after they have slept, warning drivers that feeling rested does not necessarily mean they are safe to operate a vehicle.
Officials encouraged anyone who has been drinking to make sure they are fully sober before getting behind the wheel, noting that impairment can continue into the following morning.
The agency continues to remind drivers to make responsible decisions and avoid driving when impaired to help prevent crashes and keep roadways safe.
