North Dakota – The North Dakota Highway Patrol is using a recent rollover crash north of Velva to remind motorists about the importance of wearing seat belts every time they travel.
According to the Highway Patrol, the crash occurred on May 29 on Highway 41 north of Velva. Photos shared by the agency show significant damage resulting from the rollover. Despite the severity of the crash, the driver sustained only minor injuries and was able to walk away from the incident.
Officials said the crash is an example of the many serious collisions that occur on North Dakota roadways each year. The agency noted that without a seat belt, the outcome could have been far more severe.
The vehicle involved in the crash was towing a horse trailer. Authorities said the trailer contained one horse, which also sustained injuries during the rollover.
The Highway Patrol emphasized that crashes and rollovers can happen in a matter of seconds, leaving little time for drivers and passengers to react. Troopers encouraged motorists to make buckling up a habit before placing a vehicle in drive, regardless of how short or long the trip may be.
“Seat belts save lives,” the agency stated in its public safety message.
The North Dakota Highway Patrol said posts like this are shared to educate the public about the realities of crashes occurring across the state and to provide insight into what troopers regularly encounter while serving communities throughout North Dakota.
