BISMARCK, N.D. — Following are the North Dakota Department of Health COVID-19 case rates, deaths, hospitalizations and vaccinations as of Friday, May 21. Because all data is preliminary, some numbers and totals may change from one day to the next.

Statewide case rates

  • NEW CASES: 69
  • TOTAL ACTIVE CASES: 654
  • TOTAL CASES: 109,509
  • TOTAL RECOVERED: 107,348
  • DAILY TEST POSITIVITY RATE: 3.5%

North Dakota’s active case count decreased by 28 on Friday. Cass County, which includes Fargo, leads the state with 104 active cases, while Burleigh County, which includes Bismarck, has 103 active cases. The two-week rolling average positivity rate is 3.8%.

Hospitalizations, deaths

The department reported no COVID-19 deaths, but hospitalization rose by two over the previous day.

Vaccinations

  • FIRST DOSE ADMINISTERED: 288,897 (48.3% of adult population)
  • FULL VACCINE COVERAGE: 266,708 (44.6% of population)

North Dakota’s once rapidly climbing vaccination rate has slowed as hesitancy toward the shot persists, particularly in the western part of the state and among younger residents.
