Bismarck, ND – Dr. Dan Leingang has officially stepped into the role of acting president at Bismarck State College (BSC), beginning January 2. A familiar face within the institution, Dr. Leingang brings over two decades of experience to the leadership position, having served in various academic and administrative roles since joining BSC in 2000.
Leingang’s career at BSC began as an assistant professor of mathematics. Over the years, he moved up through the ranks, becoming dean of academic affairs in 2014 and vice president for academic affairs in 2017. His longstanding commitment to the college and extensive institutional knowledge have made him a natural choice for the acting president position.
State Board of Higher Education (SBHE) Chair Tim Mihalick expressed confidence in Leingang’s ability to guide the institution through this period of transition. “Our highest priority is focusing on the students at Bismarck State College and ensuring a smooth transition of leadership,” said Mihalick. “Dr. Leingang has many years of institutional knowledge and experience at BSC, and he will ensure that the college continues to serve students, staff, and faculty while remaining mission-focused for BSC’s future.”
Bismarck State College, known for its distinction as North Dakota’s only Polytechnic institution, has been a cornerstone of higher education in the region. Dr. Leingang’s appointment comes after the resignation of former President Doug Jensen, who stepped down last month. The SBHE is expected to appoint an interim president at a special meeting scheduled for January 9.
With Dr. Leingang at the helm, BSC aims to continue its commitment to student success and academic excellence while navigating this leadership change.
