Minot, ND — A structure fire broke out in the Wheatland Village Community on Monday afternoon, prompting a swift response from local firefighters. The blaze, which started shortly after 3 p.m., left the building with heavy smoke damage but was quickly contained. The sole occupant of the home was treated for minor smoke inhalation at the scene.
According to the Minot Fire Department, crews were dispatched at 3:03 p.m. to the 5100 block of 16th Avenue. Upon arrival, firefighters found significant smoke coming from the residence. Fortunately, the occupant, along with a dog, had already evacuated the home safely before crews arrived.
Firefighters from all five of Minot’s fire stations worked together to control and extinguish the fire. The occupant, whose identity has not been released, was evaluated by emergency medical personnel and treated for minor smoke inhalation but did not require hospitalization.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, though authorities have not released additional details at this time.
In light of the incident, the Minot Fire Department is reminding residents of the importance of fire safety and preparedness. “This is a good reminder to regularly check smoke alarms and have an established escape plan in place,” said a spokesperson for the department.
No other injuries were reported, and damage to neighboring properties was minimal. Fire officials are continuing to investigate the incident.
