Bismarck, N.D. – The Bismarck Police Department reminded residents that the sale, possession and use of kratom and kratom products became prohibited in North Dakota on Aug. 5, 2026, at 5 p.m. under an executive order issued by Gov. Kelly Armstrong declaring a public health emergency.
The department also noted that 7-hydroxymitragynine, commonly known as 7-OH, has been classified as a Schedule I controlled substance by the North Dakota Board of Pharmacy.
Police encouraged residents to be aware of the changes and discontinue the purchase, possession and use of kratom products in accordance with the order.
The department said the changes were intended to keep residents informed and promote community safety.
