North Dakota – In the wake of devastating storms and tornadoes that struck southeastern North Dakota on the evening of June 20, the North Dakota Highway Patrol deployed resources to aid in response and recovery efforts across Stutsman, Barnes, and Cass counties.
The storms, which brought extreme winds and caused widespread structural damage, also led to a tragic loss of life in the region. Along Interstate 94, several semis were overturned due to high winds.
Near Eckelson Lake, at mile marker 278 on westbound I-94, two semis were blown over, temporarily obstructing traffic. Fortunately, both drivers were able to exit their vehicles without injury.
NDHP troopers responded quickly to the scene to ensure motorist safety, manage traffic flow, and provide critical support to emergency services. Troopers remained active in the affected areas throughout the night, working alongside local and state agencies to assist impacted communities.
“The Highway Patrol remains committed to supporting recovery efforts,” the agency said in a statement. “We continue to coordinate closely with partner agencies to aid in the safety and recovery of southeastern North Dakota.”
Motorists traveling through storm-damaged areas were urged to exercise caution and follow all directions from emergency personnel.
