MINOT, N.D. — Hazardous driving conditions persist along Highway 83, with icy roads causing significant issues for motorists in the Minot area. As of 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Ward County Sheriff’s Capt. Jason Kraft reported that icy stretches of the highway continue to pose a risk for travelers. Since 3:30 p.m., the sheriff’s office has responded to approximately half a dozen stalled vehicles south of Minot, with additional incidents north of the city. These figures do not include calls handled by the North Dakota Highway Patrol throughout the day and evening.
One notable incident occurred near South Prairie School, where a semi-truck jackknifed in the median. Fortunately, there have been no reports of serious injuries related to the vehicle stalls or the accident.
In response to the dangerous road conditions, Max Public School announced a delay on social media, stating that classes would begin at 10 a.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, South Prairie School’s superintendent indicated that a decision regarding school schedules would be made Thursday morning, based on an assessment of the road conditions.
As icy conditions are expected to persist, authorities are urging residents to stay informed about the weather and exercise caution when traveling.
