Bismarck, N.D. – The City of Bismarck is observing Memorial Day by closing all city offices and the municipal landfill today, Monday, May 26. This temporary closure is in honor of the men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice while serving in the United States Armed Forces.

Officials announced that normal business operations will resume on Tuesday, May 27, with city departments and facilities reopening under regular office hours.

In a public statement, the Bismarck City Government encouraged residents to take a moment to reflect on the meaning of the national holiday, recognizing the courage and dedication of those who lost their lives in service to the country.

Memorial Day, observed annually on the last Monday in May, is a federal holiday established to remember and honor military personnel who died in the line of duty. Communities across the country often commemorate the day with parades, remembrance ceremonies, and visits to cemeteries or memorials.

The city reminds residents that, while services are paused for the day, emergency operations and essential public safety services remain active and fully staffed. Police, fire, and medical emergency services will continue to operate without interruption to ensure community safety.

Residents who normally rely on city services, such as waste disposal, are advised to plan accordingly and take note of the landfill’s closure. Regular landfill operations will resume the following day.

Bismarck officials expressed gratitude to all service members and their families for their sacrifice and encouraged community members to observe the holiday with reflection and respect.

For further updates or information, residents can visit the City of Bismarck’s official website or contact city departments during normal business hours beginning Tuesday.
