Bismarck, N.D. – The City of Bismarck is inviting residents to learn more about its ongoing effort to update the city’s zoning and subdivision ordinance through an interactive online story map.
As part of the Land Development Code update process, the city has released a digital tool designed to make complex planning topics more accessible to the public. The interactive story map provides visual explanations, examples, and context for what the Land Development Code is, how it affects development in Bismarck, and why the update matters.
Recognizing that many community members may not be familiar with the terminology or scope of zoning regulations, the city created the story map to offer a more user-friendly overview. The platform also features engagement opportunities, including weekly surveys and space for users to share their thoughts on current zoning practices and what they would like to see in future code updates.
City officials hope the tool will encourage broader public participation and gather input from a wide range of residents, business owners, and developers. The update is intended to make the code more modern, efficient, and aligned with Bismarck’s growth and development goals.
Drafts of certain portions of the updated code are also available for review on the city’s dedicated Land Development Code website. Residents are encouraged to explore the story map and take part in the surveys to ensure their voices are heard throughout the process.
