Bismarck, N.D. – The 2025 Cops-N-Kids Fishing Derby, hosted by the Bismarck Police Department, reeled in a day full of sunshine, smiles, and shared memories on the water. Held earlier this week, the annual event brought together children, law enforcement officers, and volunteers for a family-friendly day of fishing and connection.

Participants enjoyed ideal weather as kids cast lines from boats and along the shore, many of them guided by officers and volunteers from across the region. The derby continues to serve as a unique opportunity for young people to interact with law enforcement in a relaxed, supportive environment.

A highlight of this year’s derby was the presentation of the Myron “Duffy” Heinle Difference Maker Award. The 2025 honors went to Amanda Fuller, who accepted on behalf of her late husband, Officer Clint Fuller. Officer Fuller was known for his long-standing dedication to the event and for mentoring many young participants over the years. Rick Schuchard was also recognized for his consistent volunteer work and the meaningful relationships he’s built with the children who fish from his boat each year.

Several public safety agencies turned out in support of the event. Among those in attendance were Bismarck Police Chief Draovitch, Burleigh County Sheriff Leben, ND Game & Fish Warden Jerad Bluem, and officers from the Mandan Police Department. Their presence helped celebrate the kids’ enthusiasm and encourage community connection.

The event was powered by the support of numerous volunteers and partner organizations. Personnel from the Bismarck Police Department, Burleigh County Sheriff’s Department, ND Parole & Probation, Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Basin Electric Power Co-Op, Burleigh Morton Detention Center, Crisis Care Chaplaincy, Bismarck Air Medical, ND Game & Fish, and the Mandan Police Department all contributed their time and energy to ensure a smooth, fun-filled day.

Organizers also extended deep gratitude to the many sponsors who help make the derby possible each year. Their generosity supports not only the logistics of the event but also creates lasting memories for hundreds of young participants.

The 2025 Cops-N-Kids Fishing Derby was more than just a day by the water — it was a celebration of mentorship, community, and the bonds formed between officers and the young people they serve.
