North Dakota – Gov. Kelly Armstrong expressed appreciation for the leadership of Job Service North Dakota Executive Director Pat Bertagnolli following his announcement to retire effective June 12.

Armstrong highlighted Bertagnolli’s four years at the helm of the agency, noting his efforts to promote job opportunities across the state and strengthen connections between job seekers and employers. He emphasized Bertagnolli’s role in helping remove barriers to employment and expanding workforce programs designed to support both students and workers.

Bertagnolli has served as executive director since February 2022, during which time the agency reported strong national rankings in its Workforce Services and Unemployment Insurance divisions. Under his leadership, Job Service expanded partnerships, including continued collaboration with the state Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, and increased participation in the H-2A temporary agricultural visa program.

The agency also grew its outreach efforts through webinars focused on workforce development topics such as labor market information, veteran hiring, and opportunities for justice-involved individuals. Additionally, Job Service helped establish a Legislative Open House to strengthen communication between lawmakers and state agencies.

Bertagnolli stated it was a privilege to serve the people of North Dakota, crediting the agency’s progress to strong partnerships and a dedicated team. He also acknowledged support from state leadership and the collaborative efforts that advanced workforce initiatives.

Before joining Job Service, Bertagnolli served in leadership roles in Watford City and worked in human resources following a long career with UPS. He also served on the state’s Workforce Development Council since 2014.

Job Service North Dakota announced that the search for a new executive director will begin immediately as the agency continues its mission to connect job seekers with employers and support workforce development across the state.
