North Dakota – The North Dakota Highway Patrol provided updates after multiple incidents in central North Dakota led to road closures, detours, and traffic disruptions on Friday.

According to the Highway Patrol, three separate incidents affected travel in the southwest region and near Bismarck, prompting emergency response crews to close or restrict portions of several major highways.

One of the incidents occurred on Highway 25 near mile marker 13 in Oliver County, where a crash involving a hazardous materials spill reduced traffic to a single lane. Authorities said no injuries were reported in the crash, but drivers were urged to use caution and expect delays while crews worked at the scene.

Another closure affected Highway 83 near mile marker 107, north of Bismarck, after strong winds brought down power lines across the roadway. The Highway Patrol directed northbound motorists to detour west on 240th Avenue, north on 41st Street, and east on 266th Avenue NE. Drivers travelling from Bismarck were also advised to use Highway 1804 as an alternate route.

A third incident occurred on Interstate 94 near mile marker 168 east of Bismarck, where a three-vehicle crash temporarily closed the roadway. At the time of the initial announcement, the extent of any injuries had not been confirmed.

The Highway Patrol later updated motorists, announcing that eastbound traffic was being detoured through a nearby rest area while westbound traffic was diverted at mile marker 170 onto Old Highway 10.

By approximately 8:40 p.m., officials reported that Interstate 94 had fully reopened to traffic.

Authorities also said Highway 25 was expected to fully reopen within about an hour, although traffic was still being allowed through a single lane at a slow speed while cleanup operations continued.

Highway 83 remained closed Friday evening as utility crews worked to repair damage caused by the downed power lines. The Highway Patrol estimated the closure would continue for another three to four hours while repairs were completed.

The North Dakota Highway Patrol thanked motorists for their patience throughout the closures and reminded drivers to slow down, follow posted detours, and use extra caution when travelling near emergency crews and utility workers.
