Bismarck, N.D. – The Bismarck Police Department announced plans to install a memorial sign on Highway 200, north of Bismarck, honoring Sgt. Steven Kenner.
The sign will be placed near mile marker 193 at a future date.
Sgt. Kenner was feloniously killed in 2011 while responding to a domestic violence call, carrying out the duty he had sworn to uphold.
The memorial follows legislation passed in 2025 allowing fallen officers to be recognized with highway signage.
Chief Stugelmeyer stated the sign will serve as a lasting reminder of Sgt. Kenner’s courage, dedication, and ultimate sacrifice.
The department expressed ongoing gratitude for his service and extended thoughts to his family, friends, and colleagues. Sgt. Kenner’s end of watch was July 8, 2011.
