Catching up with former MSU football star Scott Deibert

    Ally Dillinger, 5 years ago
MINOT, N.D. – The former ballcarrier attended Minot State from 1994 to 1998, competing in both football and track and field for the Beavers. From there, Deibert took his talents to the Canadian Football League where he enjoyed an eight-year career, culminating with a Grey Cup championship in 2001 as a member of the Calgary Stampeders. Retiring from professional football in 2006, Deibert was inducted into the Minot State Athletics Hall of Fame that same year.

Married to his wife Krista since 2002, the father of two was a four-time all conference performer as a collegiate football player, and helped MSU to a North Dakota College Athletic Conference title in 1994. To this day, he says being a part of that club was one of the most rewarding memories of his football career. “The team success we had in ’94 was something I will always remember,” Deibert states. “We had a strong team that year on both sides of the ball. It was definitely one of the best units I’ve ever been a part of.”

After initially dabbling in sports journalism working as a sideline reporter and color commentator on the radio, Deibert, now 50, finds himself working as a sales account manager with Alberta Tubular Products, in Canada. Founded in 1989, Alberta Tubular is one of Canada’s largest independent Oil Country Tubular Goods and line pipe distributors. As Deibert mentions, he is quite happy with the career path he has chosen since hanging up the football cleats. “I’m very greatful I had the unique opportunity to transition into this career, and of course it’s been very lucrative for a number of years after we experienced the oil boom some years back,” Deibert tells the Minot Daily News.

The Canadian native says it has been quite some time since he visited his old college town, and due to pandemic related travel restrictions, it remains to be seen when Deibert will have the chance to revisit his Minot stomping grounds. Nonetheless, the former Beaver standout says he would welcome a trip to the Magic City if the opportunity presents itself in the future. “I think very highly of Minot, and my time there was awesome,” Deibert adds. “The friends I made there, the memories I have of the place, it would be amazing to go back there at some point.”
