North Dakota – On Tuesday, April 8, 2025, North Dakota Gov. Kelly Armstrong met with President Donald Trump at the White House to express his gratitude for the executive orders signed by the president earlier that day. These orders aim to lift burdensome federal restrictions imposed during the Biden administration on coal-fired power plants and enhance the reliability and security of the U.S. electric grid. Armstrong also used the opportunity to urge continued support for policies that promote U.S. energy dominance and oil recovery.

Gov. Armstrong emphasized the importance of these measures for North Dakota, stating, “North Dakota stands ready to partner with the Trump administration to roll back regulations and reset the national narrative on dispatchable energy from coal and natural gas to ensure that all Americans have access to reliable, affordable electricity.” He went on to express his appreciation for the executive orders, noting that they will help ensure baseload electricity and a more robust electric grid, ultimately benefiting citizens and fostering economic growth.

The discussion also revolved around the need for a stable and resilient energy infrastructure to support the future of the U.S. economy. “We appreciate President Trump’s executive orders supporting baseload electricity and a stronger, more stable electric grid to serve our citizens, grow our economy and make America energy dominant,” Armstrong added.

In addition to his meeting with President Trump, Armstrong met with members of North Dakota’s congressional delegation to discuss further energy policy initiatives. Following these discussions, the governor joined President Trump and Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum in a moment of celebration at the White House, where they congratulated the North Dakota State University (NDSU) Bison football team for their victory in the 2025 Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) national title. This win marked the 10th national championship for NDSU in just 14 seasons, solidifying the team’s reputation as one of the top football programs in NCAA Division I college football.

This visit highlights the ongoing collaboration between state and federal leaders to advocate for policies that support North Dakota’s energy sector while also celebrating the achievements of the state’s athletes.
