North Dakota – Governor Kelly Armstrong signed Senate Bill 2201, his first bill of the 2025 legislative session, expanding eligibility for North Dakota’s $500 property tax credit.

The bill will allow approximately 3,900 additional residences to qualify, including primary residences held by trusts, life estates, and property purchased under contract for deed.

“As we continue working on broader property tax relief, signing this bill into law ensures the relief approved last session is available to all primary residence owners as intended,” Governor Armstrong said.

The bill, introduced by Senator Mark Weber, was unanimously approved by both the House and Senate and is retroactive to taxable years 2024 and 2025.

This expansion will save taxpayers up to $1.9 million in the 2023-25 and 2025-27 biennia. An emergency clause in the bill allows newly eligible individuals to apply immediately.
