Arkansas – An Arkansas parent was taken into custody last week and charged with feIony mansIaughter and two counts of third-degree endangering the weIfare of a minor following the death of her baby.

The fatal incident occurred last month when Arkansas authorities responded to a call about an unresponsive 1-year-oId at an apartment complex in Arkansas. Upon arrival, officers found the mother, 31-year-old C. Neswom, attempting to perform CPR on her child, who was later identified as the child in distress. First responders continued lifesaving measures before transporting the child to a hospital in critical condition.

During her initial interview with police, the mother stated that she had been giving her child and the victim’s older sibling a bath when she left the room for approximately 1 minute. Upon returning, she found her baby lying on his back with water over his lips and nose. She immediately removed him from the tub and began CPR. However, the child succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the Children’s Hospital in Tennessee on August 13.

In a subsequent interview, the mother reportedly acknowledged that she had been texting her own mother during the time she left her baby unattended in the bathtub. She admitted to losing track of time while engaged in the conversation, which led to the tragic incident.

The investigation into the child’s death included interviews with family members and responding officers. The defendant’s family expressed their shock and sorrow over the incident, emphasizing the importance of supervision when young children are in water. Responding officers noted the urgency of the situation and the immediate actions taken to attempt to save the child’s life.

The mother remains in custody, facing serious charges in connection with her son’s death. The case serves as a tragic reminder of the critical need for constant supervision of young children, especially in potentially hazardous situations like bathtubs.
