North Dakota – The North Dakota Highway Patrol issued a reminder to drivers about the importance of the state’s Move Over Law after observing a crash scene earlier this week.
Troopers noted that while many drivers moved over safely, some approached the scene at high speeds, creating dangerous conditions for emergency responders.
The law requires drivers to plan ahead by slowing down early, changing lanes when emergency lights are visible, and giving crews space before reaching the scene.
Officials emphasized that crash scenes are unpredictable, with troopers, firefighters, EMS personnel, and tow operators often working just feet from traffic, sometimes in poor road conditions.
“Don’t wait. Don’t rush. Don’t gamble with lives,” the Highway Patrol said. “Slow down and move over every time.”
