North Dakota – The North Dakota Game and Fish Department is once again offering free seed to landowners interested in planting wildlife food plots for pheasants in the 2025 growing season.

The department is providing a diverse seed mix, featuring flowering plants that will attract insects for pheasant chicks’ diet while offering cover and a winter food source for various wildlife species.

Unlike traditional corn or sunflower plots, this mix ensures plant diversity and benefits multiple wildlife species throughout the year. Landowners do not need to be part of the Private Land Open To Sportsmen (PLOTS) program to participate.

However, they are encouraged to allow reasonable public access, such as granting hunting permissions or putting up “Ask Before You Enter” signs. Landowners cannot charge a fee for hunting on these plots.

Game and Fish will provide enough seed to cover up to a 5-acre plot at no cost to the landowner. To receive the free seed, landowners must sign up online by **April 4, 2025**.

The seed will be available for pickup in May at various Game and Fish offices, including those in Bismarck, Jamestown, Devils Lake, Harvey, Dickinson, Williston, and Riverdale.

Private land biologists are also available to assist with food plot location and preparation. Additionally, landowners may be eligible for financial incentives through the PLOTS program.
