Bismarck, N.D. – The North Dakota State Penitentiary (NDSP) played host to the 3rd Annual NDSP Softball Classic, a day filled with spirited competition and community connection.

The event featured two exciting matchups inside the penitentiary’s grounds. In the first game, NDSP residents competed against the USA Patriots Amputee Athletics, a team of U.S. military veterans who travel nationwide playing softball and inspiring hope.

The second game saw NDSP team members and residents team up to face off against the legendary Ghost Players, a group famed for their connection to the Field of Dreams movie site.

Governor Kelly Armstrong kicked off the morning by throwing out the first pitch, setting an energetic tone for the day. Attendees also enjoyed a moving performance of the National Anthem by NDSP’s Veterans Beyond Walls, and the DOCR Color Guard presented the colors.

Adding to the festive atmosphere, FOMO 10/40 Creamery served ice cream, delighting players and spectators alike.

Event organizers expressed gratitude to the USA Patriots, Ghost Players, Veterans Beyond Walls, Governor Armstrong, the Honor Guard, volunteers, and McQuades Charity Softball Tournament/McQuade Distributing-Bismarck for their support in making the event successful.

The annual Softball Classic is celebrated as an opportunity to foster positive connections and moments of joy within the correctional facility, with anticipation already building for next year’s event.
