Bismarck, N.D. – The Bismarck ND City Government marked the start of the second half of its Citizen Academy program with a behind-the-scenes look at the city’s water infrastructure.
Cadets traveled to Bismarck’s Water Treatment Plant to learn about Utility Operations, often referred to as the “wet side” of Public Works.
The department oversees the city’s water treatment and distribution system, sanitary sewer system, wastewater treatment operations, industrial pretreatment program, stormwater management and utility billing services.
City officials said the visit provided participants with a deeper understanding of the systems that deliver clean drinking water to residents and safely manage wastewater and stormwater throughout the community.
The tour also highlighted the coordination and technical expertise required to maintain essential public services on a daily basis.
The Citizen Academy program is designed to give residents an inside look at how local government departments operate and serve the public.
