North Dakota – The North Dakota Highway Patrol has issued a temporary road closure in Burleigh County following a semi-truck rollover that resulted in a hazardous materials spill early April 28, 2026.
The crash occurred around 12:33 a.m. near mile marker 11.5 on North Dakota Highway 14, blocking both northbound and southbound lanes. Officials said the driver sustained minor injuries and was transported by ambulance to Sanford in Bismarck for treatment.
According to authorities, the semi’s van trailer was hauling approximately 8,000 gallons of Isopropyl Xanthogen Ethyl Formate in totes when it overturned. Law enforcement reported an ongoing hazardous materials spill at the scene, with an estimated 3,000 gallons released.
Emergency responders and hazardous materials teams are working to contain the spill and secure the area. Officials said Highway 14 will remain closed through the affected stretch while cleanup and recovery operations continue.
Detours have been established at 149th Avenue NE and 188th Avenue NE, directing traffic east to 392nd Street NE. Motorists are being urged to avoid the area and use alternate routes until further notice.
The North Dakota Highway Patrol said the closure is expected to last throughout the day as crews work at the scene. The crash remains under investigation.
