Bismarck, N.D. – The City of Bismarck announced that new lane configurations will be introduced at the intersection of West Main Avenue and Rosser Avenue within the next three weeks to improve traffic flow and enhance safety.

According to city officials, the changes will be implemented using new pavement markings and traffic signs.

Under the new configuration, the northernmost eastbound lane on Main Avenue will become a dedicated left-turn lane onto eastbound Rosser Avenue. Officials said the change is intended to prevent left-turning vehicles from blocking through traffic while encouraging more balanced lane use.

East of the intersection, Main Avenue will be reduced to one eastbound through lane and one westbound through lane, matching the roadway configuration already in place through downtown Bismarck.

The city also announced changes for westbound traffic. Westbound Rosser Avenue will become the starting point for the second westbound through lane on Main Avenue, eliminating the need for drivers to merge after entering the roadway.

Officials said the updated layout is expected to reduce sideswipe and rear-end crashes while improving traffic operations at the intersection.

The City of Bismarck encouraged motorists to watch for the new signs and pavement markings once the changes are in place over the coming weeks.
