Bismarck, N.D. – The City of Bismarck has shared an update on the Tyler Parkway Extension project, with crews aiming to complete several major construction tasks by the end of October while dealing with repeated vandalism at the work site.
According to an update from contractor Central Specialties Inc., crews expect to finish the remaining storm sewer work within the next two weeks. Dirt moving is on track to be completed by the end of October, including most topsoil work.
Asphalt paving is scheduled to begin later this week and is expected to be completed by early next week in areas where curbs have already been poured. Conduit and bases for future street lighting have also been installed, with light poles to be put in place once they become available from the manufacturer.
Work is also continuing on Tyler Coulee watershed projects south of Marsh Hawk Drive and near the parkway extension. Crews are installing water-flow structures and earth embankments intended to control the amount of water moving through the coulee before it reaches the new roadway.
However, the contractor also reported multiple incidents of vandalism at the construction site. The latest incident involved someone entering a piece of equipment and spray-painting the interior cab, causing tens of thousands of dollars in damage.
Ryan Beyer, a senior project manager with Central Specialties Inc., said the damage was believed to have been caused by children playing around on the job site.
The city has previously reminded residents that the Tyler Parkway Extension is a multi-year project and will not open to traffic in 2026. Officials thanked residents and travelers for their patience as construction continues.
