MINOT, N.D. – On Saturday, the Beavers edged out the Mavericks in a 1-0 pitching duel. The game’s lone run came by way of a fifth inning homer by Drew Behling on a 2-1 count.

On the mound, MSU’s starting pitcher Noah Myhr went five and one-third innings without allowing an earned run. For the game, Myhre struck out seven and walked just one batter in his second win of the season. Meanwhile, closer Aaron Kern recorded the final two outs of the game to earn his fourth save of the year.

In the second game of the afternoon, both clubs were more offensive minded as the Beavers earned an 11-9 victory. After three full innings, Minot State held a commanding 7-1 lead. MSU managed to hit two home runs to build the lead as Behling and Declan Buckle each went deep in the second and third innings.

The Beavers found themselves ahead 10-4 after five, but the Mavericks got to within one after posting five runs in the sixth. In the home half of that frame, MSU’s clean-up hitter Nolan Monthei provided some insurance with a solo homer, the team’s third of the game, to extend MSU’s advantage to 11-9.

Minot State’s starting pitcher Dominick Parkhurst notched his second win of the year after going three and one-third innings while allowing three earned runs on six hits. Using a total of seven pitchers in the game, it was reliever RJ Martinez who earned the save, pitching the final inning without allowing a base runner.

In the final game of the series on Sunday, Minot State came up on the short end of a 4-2 final. The Beavers fell behind 3-0 after three innings and were unable to make up the difference. For the game, MSU recorded four hits compared to nine for Mankato. Behling went deep for the third straight game against Mankato as he went 1-for-3 at the plate. On the mound, Martinez took the loss, evening his season mark to 2-2.

Now 12-7 on the year, with a conference mark of 10-4, MSU plans to play a doubleheader this Wednesday at home against Winona State. Games scheduled for 1:30 and 3:30 p.m.

Meanwhile in softball news, Minot State was defeated in both games of its Saturday doubleheader with Minnesota Duluth. The Beavers lost the first game 1-0, and fell the the Bulldogs 5-1 in the second matchup of the day.

With this past Sunday’s games against St. Cloud State canceled, the 12-12 Beavers plan to be back on the field for four games in two days this Saturday and Sunday. MSU will host Augustana for two games on Saturday, April 17, then will also host Wayne State for a pair on April 18 which happens to be Senior Day.
