North Dakota – The North Dakota Department of Transportation has launched the long-anticipated Chateau Road Reconstruction project in Medora, aiming to significantly improve traffic flow, safety, and access along a key corridor in the city.
Building on previous upgrades to the Medora Business Loop and city infrastructure, the project includes comprehensive improvements such as paving, enhanced drainage systems, railroad crossing upgrades, and the addition of a new shared-use path designed to provide safer options for pedestrians and cyclists. A new center turn lane and updated signage will also contribute to smoother traffic movement.
The project, which began earlier this month, is expected to be completed by June 2026, weather permitting.
Initial work is focused on preparatory tasks including fencing installation, erosion control, stump removal, and topsoil stripping. These early activities are occurring off the main roadway, resulting in minimal traffic disruption for now.
However, officials have advised that detours will be necessary in later phases of construction, particularly for those accessing the Medora Musical, Medora Cemetery, and the historic Chateau de Mores site.
Drivers and visitors are encouraged to stay informed on project updates and plan accordingly as work progresses.
