North Dakota – Gov. Kelly Armstrong paid tribute to fallen law enforcement officers during remarks tied to the North Dakota Peace Officers Memorial Service, honoring the 69 officers whose names are etched on the state monument in North Dakota.

According to the governor, the memorial on the east side of the Capitol recognizes officers who “swore to protect and serve their communities” and ultimately gave their lives in the line of duty.

He noted that 69 names are inscribed on the monument in remembrance of their sacrifice.

The governor’s message came as state officials gathered for the annual Peace Officers Memorial Service, held during Police Week and ahead of National Peace Officers Memorial Day. The event is held each year to honor law enforcement officers who have died in service.

In his remarks, the governor emphasized the importance of continued support for law enforcement officers beyond designated observance days, stating that their service and sacrifice should be recognized “not only during Police Week and on national Peace Officers Memorial Day, but every day.”

The memorial service highlighted the role of law enforcement across North Dakota communities and served as a moment of reflection for families, officers, and state leaders in attendance.

Officials said the ceremony reaffirmed the state’s commitment to honoring fallen officers while supporting those currently serving in law enforcement agencies across North Dakota.
