North Dakota – North Dakota Governor Kelly Armstrong was appointed as the 2027 chairman of the Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission during the commission’s annual business meeting in Oklahoma City.
The appointment was approved by commission members while Armstrong attended the Williston Basin Petroleum Conference in Bismarck. His one-year term as chairman is scheduled to begin on Oct. 28, succeeding Alaska Governor Mike Dunleavy in the leadership role.
The Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission is a multi-state government agency focused on promoting the conservation and efficient recovery of domestic oil and natural gas resources while also supporting environmental protection and public safety measures.
Armstrong joins a group of former North Dakota governors who previously served as chairman of the commission, including Doug Burgum, John Hoeven, Ed Schafer, and George Sinner.
Established in 1935 and headquartered in Oklahoma City, the commission currently includes 31 member states and seven associate states. North Dakota has been a member since 1954.
The organization works with states to develop oil industry regulations and serves as a forum for communication between energy-producing states and the federal government.
The commission also maintains international affiliations in Canada and partnerships with several federal agencies.
