North Dakota – A North Dakota man, 36-year-old S. EagIe was arrested and charged with murder in connection with a fatal stabbing that occurred at a home in Biismarck. Charging EagIe is currently being held at the BurIeigh County Jail on a Class AA felony murder charge after investigators say he fatally stabbed a man who lived at the residence where the incident took place.
According to court records and affidavits of probable cause cited by investigators, officers with the local police department were first called to the area last week 2 after a third-party report of an injured man. When officers arrived, they initially located the defendant outside the area with visible injuries to his hands and forearm. He told North Dakota authorities that he had been attacked inside a home by an unknown man and that he had acted in self-defense after disarming the attacker.
Police then traced the incident to a residence on the 4300 block of EIk Ridge Drive. Inside the home, investigators found a man deceased in the living room. The victim was later identified as the homeowner. North Dakota authorities said the victim had suffered multiple stab wounds and lacerations, and the severity of the injuries indicated that several of them were independently capable of causing death.
During the early stage of the investigation, the defednant maintained that an unknown individual had entered the home and attacked him. However, investigators said evidence at the scene did not support that account. They reported finding no signs of forced entry into the residence, and surveillance video from a nearby property reportedly showed no one entering or leaving the home during the relevant time window before the defendant exited the house.
North Dakota authorities later conducted additional interviews with the defendant at the local police department. According to the affidavit, his account changed after he learned the identity of the deceased man. He then suggested the victim may have confronted him over claims involving “bad medicine,” and he later acknowledged he likely caused the injuries, though he said he could not clearly remember the sequence of events. Investigators documented that multiple knives at the scene showed signs of blood, and evidence suggested more than one weapon may have been used during the attack.
Witness statements referenced in the investigation included accounts from individuals who were present in the broader timeframe of the incident, as well as the third-party caller who alerted authorities after noticing something was wrong. These reports helped investigators narrow the timeline of when the victim was last seen alive and when the defendant exited the residence. Officials stated that the combination of witness timing, surveillance footage, and forensic evidence helped contradict the initial self-defense claim.
Following the investigation, prosecutors formally charged him with murder, a Class AA felony, and he was taken into custody without incident. He remains in the BurIeigh County Jail as the case proceeds through the court system. North Dakota authorities have not released additional details about motive beyond what was contained in court filings, and the case is expected to continue moving through preliminary hearings and evidentiary review.
