North Dakota – A driver in northwest North Dakota was arrested after a traffic stop that began when the vehicle accelerated to 112 mph while passing another car, according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol.

The incident occurred Aug. 18 when a trooper observed the driver accelerate to 112 mph while passing another vehicle.

The driver was subsequently arrested on suspicion of DUI involving alcohol and drugs, as well as possession of Schedule I drug paraphernalia.

The driver also received citations for marijuana paraphernalia and traveling 112 mph.

The North Dakota Highway Patrol used the incident to warn motorists about the dangers of combining excessive speed with impaired driving.

“Speed and impairment are a dangerous combination,” the agency said, urging drivers to slow down, drive sober and make it home safely.

The Highway Patrol did not provide additional information about the driver, including the person’s name or the exact location of the traffic stop.
