Bismarck, N.D. – The Bismarck Fire Department recently welcomed participants of the Citizen Academy to Station 4, offering them an inside look at the daily operations and responsibilities of firefighters.

The visit provided attendees with an opportunity to engage with fire department staff and learn about various aspects of fire service, including community risk reduction, technical rescue operations, and hazardous materials response.

During the tour, Citizen Academy participants gained insight into a firefighter’s typical shift and the extensive training required to respond to emergencies.

Fire personnel demonstrated the capabilities of fire engines, showcasing the specialized tools and equipment used in firefighting, rescues, and hazardous material incidents. The program aimed to give citizens a better understanding of the fire department’s role in public safety and emergency response.

The Citizen Academy, an initiative designed to educate community members about local government functions, is nearing its conclusion.

The program spans 12 weeks, covering different city departments to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of municipal operations.

The final session will take place at the Bismarck Police Department, marking the end of the 2025 Citizen Academy program.
