Bismarck, N.D. – The Bismarck City Government announced that both Bismarck Public Works departments will host an open house event in celebration of National Public Works Week.
The event is scheduled for May 19 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Public Works building located at 601 S. 26th Street in Bismarck.
Officials said the free, family-friendly event will give residents an opportunity to explore public works operations up close. Attendees will be able to view city vehicles and equipment used by the Public Works Service Operations department, including garbage trucks, boom trucks, and other maintenance equipment.
The event will also include hands-on activities, door prizes, and prize drawings for participants of all ages.
City officials said the goal of the open house is to highlight how public works departments support daily life in the community through essential services such as road maintenance, solid waste management, water treatment, wastewater services, and utility operations.
Departments involved include Service Operations, Utility Operations, Fleet Services, Forestry, the Street Department, and Street Light and Traffic Signal Maintenance, among others.
National Public Works Week runs from May 17 through May 23 and is sponsored by the American Public Works Association. The 2026 theme, “Rooted in Service, Powered by Community,” focuses on the role public works professionals play in maintaining infrastructure and essential services that support local communities.
City officials encouraged residents to attend and learn more about the services that help maintain safety, infrastructure, and daily operations across Bismarck.
