North Dakota – Gov. Kelly Armstrong released a heartfelt statement mourning the loss of Dr. Tom Strinden, husband of Lieutenant Gov. Michelle Strinden. Dr. Strinden passed peacefully on Sunday, July 13, at their family lake home, surrounded by his loved ones after a 17-month battle with brain cancer.

Armstrong praised Dr. Strinden’s resilience and faith throughout his illness. “Tom valiantly fought cancer the same way he lived his life – with an unshakable faith in his savior Jesus Christ and an unwavering commitment to his family,” the governor said.

He also highlighted Dr. Strinden’s dedication both to his family and his professional work as a gifted eye surgeon. Despite his diagnosis and surgery, he continued caring for his patients and improving their quality of life.

Beyond his medical career, Dr. Strinden was active in his community, coaching hockey programs, enjoying outdoor activities with his children, and making medical mission trips worldwide.

“Our hearts go out to Michelle, Jacob, Joe, Ben, Sarah, and the entire Strinden and Strecker families,” Armstrong said. “We ask all North Dakotans to pray for them as they grieve this enormous loss.”

Funeral arrangements are pending, and the family has requested privacy during this difficult time.
